That’s it ! The famous Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Michael Schumacher replica watch has just been officially unveiled. Result? For each model, the aesthetic codes are inspired by Michael Schumacher’s world of speed in which precision predominates. The anthracite flange features, between 12 and 1 on the tachymeter scale, two blue stars and five red stars symbolizing the driver’s seven world championship titles, two for Benetton in 1994 and 1995 and five for Ferrari between 2000 and 2004 .
The minute track is made up of a discreet black and white pattern evoking a checkered flag, while the chronograph counters subjected to a galvanic treatment (black on the titanium and pink gold versions, blue on the platinum version) display edging in relief inspired by the on-board instruments of a racing car.
Automotive imagery is also found in the unique shape of the hour and minute hands: faceted, in gold with white luminescent coating, they are loosely inspired by the silhouette of a racing car monohull. The red chronograph hands have a specially blackened head to direct the eye to the indications and, for the first time on a Royal Oak Offshore, the date display is also in red.
Although the instantly recognizable shape of the Royal Oak Offshore has been retained, the Michael Schumacher Limited Edition features a specific case. The one-piece octagonal bezel is made of ultra-resistant Cermet, a material seven times harder than steel, virtually scratch-resistant and it is fixed by eight screws inspired by the automotive world.
The specially designed rubber strap – gray for the titanium and pink gold versions, blue for the platinum version – is fixed by microblasted satin titanium studs imitating the cooling vents of a racing car, while the microblasted crown (in titanium, pink gold or white gold) is inspired by a gear and features a red anodized aluminum disc bearing the initials of Audemars Piguet. The push-button protectors are in microblasted titanium and the pushers are in polished black ceramic with the caps in titanium, white gold or pink gold.
Caliber 3126/3840
On the back of the watch, we discover a caseback freely inspired by the spokes of a racing car rim with a sapphire crystal in the center that allows you to admire the superb self-winding caliber 3126/3840, composed of 365 parts.
The 22-carat gold oscillating weight with anthracite galvanic treatment is stamped with the Audemars Piguet logo as well as the famous embossed “MS” signature by Michael Schumacher.
The design of the oscillating weight also finds its inspiration in the world of the racing circuit. Its two cutouts are directly inspired by NACA nozzles, aerodynamic devices found on racing cars.
Echoing the many sophisticated finishes applied to the exterior of the watch, the movement (variously polished, micro-blasted, satin-finished or anodized – like an automobile engine), is decorated with the level of excellence for which the Audemars manufacture is renowned. Piguet: beading on the mainplate, rhodium plating, hand bevelling, snapping, Côtes de Genève decorations on the bridges and diamond stone moldings.
